YYNOT Original Music
After seeing Rush for (probably the last time), on their R40 show this past summer, I watched the band go 'back in time', playing songs from the albums that inspired me to be a musician as a 10 year old kid. So the next day I thought I'd compose a piece that tried to capture little bits and pieces and vibes from albums like ; 2112, A Farewell To Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, and Moving Pictures. The challenge was to make an interesting "journey" while capturing the spirit and vibe in a 5 minute song! I recruited drummer Tony Morra as we shared a love for the band and knew he was perfect for it. Then after I saw a YouTube clip of bassist Tim Starace I was blown away by his energy and clear love for the playing of bassist Geddy Lee. I laid out and arranged the piece, Tony recorded his drums and percussion, then I played all of the guitar parts and keyboards, then after Tim played I set about mixing the tune. It's been awesome to see the positive reaction from the diehard Rush fans and feeling the satisfaction of getting across what I and we were trying to do. - Billy
